How to reset your AirPods and fix most problems

This tip applies the "turn it on and off again" principle to Apple's wireless headphones. Resetting your AirPods can restore them to their original state.

To reset your AirPods:

Both the right and left earbuds should be returned to the charging case.

Hold the Setup button for 15 seconds until the LED flashes. DEPENDING ON THE CHARGING CASE, the LED might be located inside or outside the lid.

Follow the pairing process by opening your AirPods Case near your iPhone.

AirPods will automatically pair with iCloud, so you don't have to pair them with every Apple device. If you experience problems, check and ensure you have the original AirPods.

These troubleshooting tips will help you if your AirPods are still having problems.

1. How to find lost AirPods

However, you can use Apple's Find My Tool to locate AirPods. There are some limitations to this. Find I will identify your AirPods if they are still powered on. You will be able to see the last known location if your AirPods have been removed from their cases or run out of battery.

To locate your AirPods:

In your web browser, go to

Sign in and click Find iPhone.

Click the All Devices menu at the top of your screen.

To view their location, select your AirPods.

If your AirPods are located in your home and have trouble finding them, you can click the Play Sound option to listen for their beeping. If they are both in their cases and turned off, this won't work.

2. Solutions to Static and Audio Problems

You might not be listening to the right source if you are experiencing audio issues with your AirPods. The range of Apple's AirPods is impressive at around 100 feet. However, this can drop dramatically if you introduce obstacles like walls or other sources of interference.

This won't be a problem if you have your source device, such as an iPhone or iPod, in your pocket. Static sources such as a computer will require you to keep within the range of your source device for optimal audio quality. You can also have interference sources that reduce your AirPods' range.

Wi-Fi interference is a problem with your AirPods' W1 chip. This problem can be reduced by switching off Wi-Fi or moving to another location to make a call.

3. AirPods keep crashing and playing erratically.

AirPods are equipped with proximity sensors that detect when they are in or out of your ears. The AirPods will automatically play or pause any content if you have not specified otherwise. It's possible that your AirPods are causing your eardrums to stop working, or the sensors may be malfunctioning.

This feature can be disabled in your AirPods Settings under Setting > Bluetooth. To toggle Automatic ear Detection off, tap on the icon beside your AirPods. Although this will decrease the battery life as your AirPods will still use the same amount of power regardless of whether you are wearing them, it will also mean that your AirPods will stop pacing.

As we mentioned earlier, you may also wish to reset your AirPods. If you suspect that your AirPods are having problems and you cannot resolve the issue yourself, you should contact Apple Support for a repair or replacement.

4. Automatic Ear Detection Does Not Work

Automatic Ear Detection pauses music and other content when the AirPods are removed from your ears. You can check that the feature is enabled if this does not happen. Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Tap on the icon near your AirPods. Make sure Automatic ear Detection has been turned on.

Next, ensure that your AirPods are clean. If ear wax or any other gunk covers the proximity sensor, it will not work. Your earphones will behave as if they are constantly in your ears. It would help to clean the case with a cotton swab, some isopropyl alcohol, and a toothbrush.

5. AirPods won't connect to your iPhone.

Try putting your AirPods back in the case, and wait around 15 seconds before trying to connect them. Then take them out and reconnect. Open Control Center and tap on the Now playing box at the top-right corner. Then, select your AirPods manually.

Your iPhone may be the problem. You can disable Bluetooth by turning Airplane Mode off and on again. Access Control Center, tap the plane icon, wait for a while, then tap it again. Restarting your iPhone might be a solution if this doesn't work.

Still, got problems? You can reset your AirPods following the instructions above and pair them again. Your AirPods may not be lit up if they don't have enough battery. Allow them to charge for a few moments, and then you can try again.

How to Choose the Best Wireless Earphones? Apple's AirPods make a great choice because they can pair by proximity, use the Apple Lightning port for charging, and can be connected to up to two devices simultaneously. They also support low-energy W1 communication. They're not the only wireless headphones or earphones that can do this.
