Apple Mac mini M1 2022 review (finally the one I've been waiting for)

It's always been my big fan of the Apple Mac mini. I believe that most users are focused on productivity and are enthralled by the idea of a smaller form factor workstation. It's affordable and straightforward. As I've experienced, an earlier version of the Mac mini was not as robust. I've tried switching to it numerous times and always ended with the same place. What's inside the box?

Apple is focused on minimalist design. Inside the retail box, it comes with your MacBook mini and a power cable, as well as the tiny book. The box that comes with the retail box suspends it to make sure you don't need any worries about becoming damaged, despite coming from China.

It's the processor of the ARM and graphics together. While it might sound like a disaster, however, they did their best, and it's pretty innovative.

The chips aren't entirely new; they're essentially the iPad chips now employed in their laptops (Mac mini, MacBook, and soon the iMac). The best part about shifting into ARM-based processors is running iOS applications in macOS (universal applications). Microsoft tried to create similar things when the Windows phone came out, but it ultimately didn't work.

The only drawback is that apps must be designed to work with Apple Silicon. But that doesn't mean they won't work. In simple terms, apps that aren't optimized will work using Rosetta 2 (Apple's translation process). In practice, this means the app could launch slowly initially when it's being translated. There's not a single app that's not run for me.

There's also a handy website called Is Apple silicon-ready? you can use to find your most-loved apps. It also lets you know whether an app is Apple or Intel by looking at The Activity Monitor.

While some of this may seem like Apple marketing lingo or false statistics, However, I must admit that you can feel the difference in those M1 chips. Although I've not yet run my tests, I can assure you that it's the Mac mini M1 runs very quickly! I'm incredibly obnoxious about jerkiness or lags with windows moving, etc.

I had a difficult time slowing the machine down. The majority of the time, it seems that my Mac mini runs between 70 and 80 percent idle. Even with more than 50 chrome tabs running, Spotify, Slack, Skype, Affinity Designer, Sublime, Forklift, Trello, Bear, 1Password, Snagit, etc. All running. It's a beast! Mac mini M1 is an absolute monster! I also had no problems using Windows 10 ARM in Parallels.

If you're curious to know how the benchmarks compare against the prior Mac minis, you can check the results in the Geekbench Browser. This Apple M1 chip is miles ahead of the earlier Intel Core i7 in the most recent year's Mac mini.

It's even crazier when you examine the single-core benchmarks compared to those of the MacBook Pro and iMac. I previously had an iMac with 27 inches, but it's clear that the Mac mini runs more powerful. Regarding multi-core, it's just behind the most potent Apple models. I've previously bought the new 2018 Mac mini and returned the unit due to it not having enough power to power the LG UltraFine 5K display. I believe this was because the graphics card (no specific GPU) simply struggled to handle the resolution of 5K. However, it's the M1 Mac Mini works beautifully with it.

If you're interested, I choose to use my LG Ultrafine 5K monitor because it's the closest thing compared to an iMac screen. Yes, the iMac screen has made it difficult for me to use any other screen in the present. The LG has a 27-inch screen and has 500 nits of brightness. It also supports dimming features on its Magic Keyboard. In addition to being a casing feels like the display on the Magic Keyboard.

Another advantage of Apple switching to its chip is that it could get out of Intel's middleman. This had slowed the pace of their innovation. This is evident with their new M1 Macs. Also, we'll begin to see a slight decrease in costs. Having complete control over the hardware is a huge advantage for Apple, an enormous competitive edge.

I decided to go with 16GB as it is my primary computer. It is also possible to erase all your prior estimates of how much RAM you think you'll need. Because of the M1 chip, it shares memory, which is why they refer to it as " unified memory."

After using this Mac mini for a while, I think that most casual users would likely be happy with 8GB. If you're interested, I have a brother who owns his Mac mini M1 that has only 8 GB of RAM. He's outstanding.

I picked 256GB because the bulk of the storage I have comprises documents, and they're stored in the cloud. The majority of my work is via the internet.

It also comes with Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity. A few members of social networks and YouTube have complained about problems in Bluetooth connectivity. However, I've never had any issues. The majority of my devices are Apple brands, which may be a factor. I am using my Apple Magic Keyboard and AirPods.

It can be used to power one display with at least 6K of resolution and 60Hz speed connected via Thunderbolt, and one show has as high as 4K resolution and 60Hz through HDMI 2.0. This is one of the disadvantages I see. It isn't possible to use two Thunderbolt monitors at the same time. If you're looking to add a monitor, you'll need to power one with Thunderbolt and the other via HDMI.

Cost

Its basic Mac mini starts with $699.00, which I believe is a perfect representation of Steve Jobs's original idea of developing an affordable Mac ever. It's not to boast about Apple's achievements further, but I believe Steve Jobs would be pleased with the things Apple has achieved with its M1 chip in terms of performance.

The one I bought with 16GB of memory came to $899.00. Before this, I owned a 27"' iMac, so this is all-around. iMacs aren't expensive; however, they are not cheap.

Pros

The brand new M1 chip is incredibly speedy! It isn't easy to slow the machine down.

It can power 5K displays without difficulty. You can get it for 6K if you want to go for an XDR display.

Bluetooth, as well as Wi-Fi, work both fast and reliable. They work with no issues.

It's a great value, particularly when you're comparing performance with the likes offered by iMac Pro or Mac Pro.

I never had fans spin around before.

Cons

It isn't possible to charge two Thunderbolt monitors at the same time.

I'm not a fan of the option of space gray. Only available in silver.

Conclusion

I'm very looking forward to the next generation of the latest Apple Silicon chips, both in terms of performance and cost. I've swapped my expensive Macbook with the MacBook mini, and I haven't regretted it a single moment. It's super fast and silent, and I've not had a single issue when I first turned it on. Mac Big Sur runs beautifully with it.
