Facebook's parent Meta claims it is building an ultra-fast supercomputer
The company behind social media has said that it is hoping the device will aid in preparation for creating the metaverse, which is a virtual reality device that is intended to replace the web as we know it in the present.
Facebook declared that it thinks this computer will be among the fastest on the planet once it's fully developed at the mid-point of the year.
Supercomputers are highly efficient and powerful machines designed to perform complex calculations that are not feasible with a typical home computer. Meta did not reveal which location the device is or the amount it would cost to construct.
The machine that is currently in operation but being built is dubbed AI Research SuperCluster. Meta promises that it will help it's AI researchers create "new and better" artificial intelligence models that can be trained through "trillions" of examples, work with hundreds of different languages simultaneously and analyze video, text, and images all in one go.
The method by which Meta defines the computing power of its machine differs from the way conventional supercomputers with more advanced technology are evaluated because it depends on the graphics processing chip, beneficial in running "deep learning" algorithms that can comprehend what's in the image, read texts and translate between languages, according to Tuomas Sandholm Computer science professor as well as co-director of the AI center at Carnegie Mellon University.
"We hope RSC will help us build entirely new AI systems that can, for example, power real-time voice translations to large groups of people, each speaking a different language, so they can seamlessly collaborate on a research project or play an AR game together," Meta stated in an article on the blog.

The company announced that the supercomputer it is using would incorporate "real-world examples" from its systems in training its AI. The company says that its previous attempts utilized only open-source and public data sets.
"They are going to, for the first time, but their customer data on their AI research computer," Sandholm stated. "That would be a really big change to give AI researchers and algorithms access to all that data."
Conclusion
Facebook is one of the top social media platforms worldwide. Facebook's expansion of servers will provide a better experience to its users.
